Mel Hadjicostas is a photographer based in Southend on Sea, Essex, currently showcasing various images with Southend On Sea Arts Council and occasional publication in local newspaper the Evening Echo.
Estuary Alive is Mel's latest body of work, examining everyday personalities encountered in a life lived beside the sea, as a way of exploring the ordinary and extraordinary interpretations of a seaside town, from the liveliness of tourists and day-trippers to the lives and livelihoods of local fishermen.
She is currently working on a new series of images of women that examines the foundations and construction of femininity and female sexuality, and explores and challenges the fundamentals of gender divisions and androgyny.
